Our Training Philosophy
Our approach is centered around helping dogs and owners understand one another. We focus on more than simply teaching commands—we work on a dog’s overall state of mind, clear expectations, structure, boundaries, and behaviors that transfer into everyday life. With more than 18 years of experience, we’ve learned what works, what doesn’t, and how to create training plans that hold up in the real world.
A dog knowing “sit” doesn’t necessarily mean they know how to behave when a guest walks through the door. Our goal is to help families create dogs who can make good choices and remain calm and responsive in the situations that matter most. We believe owners deserve practical, honest guidance without shame or blame. Our job is to give you a clear plan, teach you how to use it, and support you as you put those skills into practice at home.

There's No Place like Home
Reid and Cathy met while attending Ohio University. Shortly after graduation, they founded Dog’s Best Friend in 2008. Originally focused on professional pet sitting and dog walking, the business quickly evolved into dog training as clients began asking for help with behavioral challenges and real-life solutions.
In 2015, we moved from Powell to our current property in Plain City and transformed the existing horse barn into Dog’s Best Friend’s training facility. Over the years, our family and our business have grown together, and we’ve had the opportunity to help hundreds of dog owners throughout Plain City, Dublin, and the surrounding communities.
Today, we live and work on our family farm with our two daughters, dogs, cats, goats, and chickens. The farm gives us a unique environment for training, where dogs can learn to focus and make good choices around the sights, sounds, animals, and distractions of everyday life.
